The University of Hong Kong's Presidential PhD Scholar Programme funds selected full-time PhD students admitted for 2027/28. There is no separate application: every applicant to a full-time PhD programme at HKU is considered automatically. The scholarship is worth up to around HK$445,800 in the first year and up to around HK$428,300 in each subsequent year.

  • No separate application: all full-time PhD applicants at HKU are considered for the scholarship.
  • Main Round applicants are strongly encouraged to also apply for the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme (HKPFS).
  • For 2027/28, all HKPFS holders receive the HKU Presidential PhD Scholarship.
  • Clearing rounds to 30 April 2027 and 31 August 2027 consider applications only if places remain.
