JSPS Short-term (PE) Postdoctoral Fellowships let researchers from the US, Canada and Europe carry out research in Japan with a Japanese host. Applications go through the host institution, not directly to JSPS. For the FY2027 2nd recruitment, host institutions submit to JSPS by 8 January 2027; about 20 awards are expected, with results in mid-May 2027. Ask your host for its earlier internal deadline and check the official JSPS guidelines.

  • For researchers from the US, Canada and Europe; JD or MD holders are not eligible without a PhD.
  • Apply through a Japanese host institution; its internal deadline may be a month or more earlier.
  • Host-institution deadline (submission to JSPS): 8 January 2027, 17:00 (Asia/Tokyo).
  • Arrival in Japan between 1 August 2027 and 31 March 2028.
